I was born in Athens in 1962 and graduated the Medical School of Athens University in 1987. Graduation degree with “honors”.
I was trained in the specialty of Ophthalmology attending the four-years obligatory training in the Ophthalmology Department of Athens University at Athens General Hospital “G. Gennimatas”. I became a specialist ophthalmologist after successful exams in 1994.
I was registered with the British General Medical Council and was appointed as a Clinical Fellow (Honorary Consultant) at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, England from 1994 until 1996 with special interest in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. I was then appointed as a specialist Ophthalmologist at the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary from 1996 until 1998.
I was appointed as a specialist Ophthalmologist at Nikea General Hospital, Athens, Greece, on 02/02/1998 and worked there as a Consultant until 23/12/2014. This was a full time post, including outpatients’ clinics, operating theatre sessions and on call duties. During my contract there I performed more than 5000 phaco cataracts, 2250 strabismus cases, 630 glaucoma surgeries and a great number of minor/major lid procedures.
From 05/01/2015 till now I work at the Eye Day Clinic, taking part in clinics and operating theatres.
I have a wide experience in many fields of Ophthalmology, clinical experience in chronic diseases such as diabetic and hypertensive retinopathies, auto immune diseases and uveitis. I have also dealt with a great number of emergency cases (trauma and infections).
I have been involved in surgical procedures, such as cataract phaco surgery, refractive surgery, glaucoma and strabismus surgery, as well as lid plastic and reconstructive surgery.
I also have a great experience in Medical Retina, having performed a large number of argon laser procedures and intravitreal injections for diabetic maculopathy and wet AMD.
I have participated in a large number of ophthalmology congresses, seminars, courses and experimental surgery. I have a significant number of oral presentations ( of which a few have been highly awarded), as well as written papers in international peer-reviewed Journals.
I possess the post-graduate diploma “Medical Informatics” by Athens Kapodistrian University.
Member of the Greek Ophthalmologists Society, the European Strabismological Association and the International Microsurgical Society.
